Bright orange cap, forked ridges, smells like apricot — Oregon coast

Found a whole patch of these under Douglas fir on the Oregon coast this morning. Vivid orange all the way through, false gills that run down the stem, and honestly they smell like dried apricots.

Not eating anything until someone who knows way more than me weighs in. What am I looking at?

Those false, blunt, forking ridges (not true knife-edge gills) plus the apricot smell and Doug fir habitat scream Pacific golden chanterelle, Cantharellus formosus. Classic.

Do the classic check: true chanterelles have ridges you can almost smear with a thumbnail, and the flesh is white and stringy when torn. Watch out for the jack-o-lantern lookalike, but those grow in clusters on wood, not scattered in soil like yours.

Agreeing with Sally on C. formosus. Note the false gills are the key genus-level feature. Please still confirm in-hand with someone local before eating — photos flatten a lot of detail.

This is amazing, thank you both! Taking them to the local mycological society meetup Thursday to confirm before anything else.
